Involvement in music is thought to teach basic skills such as concentration, counting,
listening, and cooperation while also promoting understanding of language, improving
the ability to recall information, and creating an environment more conducive to
learning in other areas.
-Woodall and Ziembroski, 2002

What a show! About 300 people were treated to fabulous performances from the students. We will have DVDs for all the students soon. Again thanks to our friends at The Barber Towne Pub, Tim Hortons, The independent , Feildservice.ca and the pine Cone staff for without their efforts & generosity the recital would not have been possible.

In this new section we will have a new trivia question each month, email your answers to lessons@pineconemusic.com and one winner will be chosen each month from all of the correct answers. The winner will receive a $10.00 gift certificate towards store merchandise.
Last month's question was:
Many musicians have extreme attachments to their instruments & often give them names. One of the most widely recognized would be B.B. King. What is the the name of B.B's guitar & where did he get the name?
Mike Schultz wins a Pine Cone gift certificate for His correct answer. B.B. King always refers to his guitar as Lucille. In his early years he would often play Barn dances that were heated by a barrel of burning kerosene. One evening two men began fighting over a girl and knocked the barrel over igniting the barn. The patrons all fled the burning building & when B.B. realized he had forgotten his guitar, he ran back in to retrieve it, narrowly escaping with his life. The name of the girl the men were fighting over was Lucille. B.B. calls his guitar Lucille to this day as a reminder to never do anything so foolish again.
Summer's question is:
February 3rd 1959 is known as "The day the music died" as the private plane carrying Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper & Ritchie Valens crashed, killing everyone aboard. Holly Chartered the plane to fly ahead of the rest of the crew and there was one final spot left. The spot would go to either Ritchie Valens or a young musician who was playing bass in Buddy's touring band, Valens won the coin toss to decide who got the final seat. Name the young bass player who lost the coin toss.
